University of Michigan on Top!

Forbes put together a list of the Top College Sports Towns in the United States. And #1 on the list was Ann Arbor, Michigan.

As a law school alum, I am not surprised at all. College towns are kind of my thing…no really. I was born in Ames, Iowa (Iowa State) then headed to Stillwater (Oklahoma State), and then lived most of my childhood fifteen minutes from Arizona State University…it is the result of being the daughter of professors I suppose. Add to that at least three other universities, University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University, and University of Michigan where I spent time over summers for swimming, debate camp and Girls State, and an undergrad at Baylor. So now I live in Austin, home of the Texas Longhorns. College towns are my home. Where else can you get youth, a wealth of knowledge, mixing of the cultures guaranteed entertainment (hopefully from the sports)?

Here are the Top 10:

1. Ann Arbor, Michigan, University of Michigan

2. Chapel Hill, North Carolina, University of North Carolina

3. Norman, Oklahoma, University of Oklahoma

4. Palo Alto, California, Stanford University

5. College Station, Texas, Texas A&M University

6. Austin, Texas, University of Texas

7. Fayetteville, Arkansas, University of Arkansas

8. Lexington, Kentucky, University of Kentucky

9. College Park, Maryland, University of Maryland

10. State College, Pennsylvania, Penn State University

Did your alma mater make the list?

Forbes came up with the esteemed top 10…the consulted the 2009 final standings for the Directors’ Cup, which takes into account the totality of a university’s sports offerings. Editors also took into account quality of life using Coldwell Banker’s Home Price Comparison Index, and then added in statistics on public-school quality and crime rates, provided by NeighborhoodScout.com.
