The Jr. League of Austin kicks off their FIT program today.
Believe it or not thousands of children right here in Austin go hungry every weekend. The Junior League of Austin (JLA) is working to eliminate this problem through their newly launched FIT (Food in Tummies) program. FIT provides food over the weekend to elementary school children who qualify for the free and reduced meals programs.
This Fall the Junior League has committed to feeding 700 children from the Del Valle school district .
The JLA will provide them meals for 31 weeks/the entire school year. The cost to feed one hungry child for a weekend is $5. If you would like to donate and/or assist with the FIT program, go to jlaustin.org
