Excerpt from Footprints in the Boardroom:

For as long as I can remember I’ve said my prayers. From kneeling by my bed next to my father when as a child I prayed “Now I lay me down to sleep,” to the quick “Help me pass this final, Lord” to asking that God’s will always be done in my life. So it was not unusual to ask that God be with me in the journey that took me to the television show The Apprentice. And it was as natural as breathing to go out on the balcony at the Suite and say my prayers.

My book is more than just an account of the prayers I prayed leading up to being chosen for the show and during the times on the balcony and in the boardroom. It is my journal turned into conversations with God, becoming a fervent prayer. It is my affirmation of the goodness of God, the love and support of family and friends, and the remarkable everyday surprises of faith. My gratitude for the total experience and what I learned continues to give me strength and courage to pursue the next leg of the journey God has in store for me.

Lord, my prayer is that you will give me the strength and courage to make it through each test I encounter. I pray this is the beginning of something new, something challenging, something awesome in my life; something I can learn while living in – but not of – the world. I have dreams, Lord; I pray they are your dreams as well. No, I pray that they are Your reality. I remember that ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.’ Let that be my prayer, O Lord, and my comfort. Amen . . .

Comments about the book:

A single chapter motivated me to reach beyond my perceived limits and remember I’m not alone in my quest. The description of Roxanne’s journey through that single project validates the importance of listening to your head and heart. To believe yourself as God believes in you.

Roxanne Wilson’s account is a simple but powerful addition to the writings from generations of dynamic and progressive African American women.

In the face of adversity, she dug deep like her forebears and used her religious upbringing to help her through the rough times. This is a story about how to ‘Take the Lead’ and believe in oneself. Her story is that commitment, sensitivity, strategic thinking and strong moral principles are the keys to success. This makes excellent reading!

Despite the unique title of the book, Footprints in the Boardroom, my practical mind could only think that Roxanne was being uncharacteristically disingenuous with the title. Fortunately, on reading the book, my misgivings were laid to rest. The message of the book appears to be that no obstacle is insurmountable if you have faith in the Divine Master and you are prepared to make the necessary sacrifices to achieve your goals.
