Help! I’m Plagued By Christmas Trees Alternatives

I’m a Single girl-on-the-go…translation, I don’t put up a Christmas tree.

Back in the day I think I put up decorations. But as time went by, it was more and more obvious that domestic wasn’t my thing…that includes decorating. So I would decorate my bar with Christmas Cards.

Decorating a 360 Tree at Night Time

Instead, I enjoy trees when I see them. Like the Grand Tree at The Junior League of Austin’s A Christmas Affair. Or the trees along 360 (Highway in Austin). Have you seen them? In addition to heading to 38 1/2 street (right?) to look at the lights, drive up and down 360 before dusk and you will see an all time record of trees decorated by Austinites.

I’m proud to report that my girls may or may not have decorated a 360 tree…

The 360 Christmas Trees are absolutely a Good Christmas Tree Alternative…

Enter my other Christmas tree. When I arrived at my Mom’s house on Thursday, I expected to see a live and decorated Christmas tree. Instead, I saw this:

My Mom's "Christmas Tree"

It seems that my Mom decided against a Christmas tree this year. Instead they decorated a tree…I don’t even know what kind of tree that is.

And when we celebrate Christmas tonight (before I head out on my trip with my dad), we will gather around the Alternative Tree.

I should mention that while I was in high school, there was a year when we NEVER took down the tree. My friends would come over and I would say: “Yeah! It’s our Easter tree,” or “It’s our Fourth of July Tree,” or my favorite “We want to celebrate Christmas all year round.”

So I guess my mom has a year saved up of not having a traditional tree…I guess.

Ultimately I don’t think it matters whether your tree is along the side of a highway, or a tropical tree. As long as you are taking a moment to be festive, to remember the reason for the season, to enjoy each other, then it’s all gravy.
