One of the my favorite things to do is to empower girls to be the best they can be. I get to do it on a daily basis with my 10th grade girls at Riverbend. There is nothing more rewarding.
Last weekend I has the pleasure of speaking to 500 preteen and teen girls for GirlStart’s Girls in STEM. Girls in STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) is a day conference giving the girls hands on experience in STEM, led by professional women in the STEM fields.
No, I’m not a STEM professional. My keynote was about encouraging the girls to reach for their dreams because they CAN accomplish them.
As I encourage others to reach for their dreams, it undoubtedly reminds me to keep reaching for my own. Funny how that works.
As I was leaving, the adorable ‘little muffins’ were running up to give me hugs and tell me about their dreams. Precious.

I challenged the girls to write down three things and put it where they can see it often:
- Write down their dream
- Write down the name of someone who inspired them during the conference
- Write down what/why/how they were inspired.
Do you have a dream? If you are willing to share it, I’d love to hear it below…
If you have pre-teen or teen girls, I highly encourage getting them involved with GirlStart and Girls in STEM. Click here to read the live streaming reviews that the girls were posting on twitter during the conference.
