POA #2 I will regain my personal style.
While we were in Madrid for the holidays my dad, he was reminiscing and said to me (insert Trinidadian accent) “Roxanne you were well dressed as a child until we started letting you dress myself.”
Ha. Thanks Dad.
I remember the first pair of pants I picked out. Magenta with black hounds tooth. I LOVED those pants. My dad would cringe whenever I wore them. And even though my dad walked on water, my independence could not be thwarted. I embarked on my personal style.
What is my personal style? Hard to say. I mean magazines like to simplify it: Classic, Retro, Mod, Rocker, Trendy. Is anyone really just one style summed up in one word? And does that even begin to cover it?
How do I regain my personal style? Not really sure, but here goes…
My POA for regaining my personal style:
1. I will go get a free makeover at a department store counter this month. My makeup routine has become routine. I used to do this every season. My sisters and I would make appointments and have our makeup done by an expert. Not only was it fun, but it gave me ideas of new colors, techniques, etc. And I would always get that must-have product of the season. Why don’t I do that anymore. Hello?
2. I will take one fashion chance a month. Magenta hounds tooth. Need I say anymore? It is in my DNA to wear whatever I want; to take fashion chances because, well, why does all the crazy have to be on the runway or on the red carpet. Wearing the same thing everyone else is wearing is boring!
We all have that outfit in our closet that we want to wear but are afraid to because it is totally out of the box we have made for ourselves. Why not wear something crazy trendy or way vintage? I found a good quality white boa in my closet the other day. Why did I buy that? Not only did I buy it, but I used to wear it! I owned it when I went out. I stared fashion danger in the face.
Selling what you wear is like selling how you dance: It is more about what is going on neck up then neck down. You sell it by your attitude.
If you wear a burlap sack and work it, suddenly the sack is looking pretty good.
Taking a fashion chance forces you to challenge yourself…strengthen your confidence.
Now if I could just find those magenta pants…
Next time: Yep I need to reign in the finances. Bullocks. We have put that conversation off far too long…
