101 Things to do before you diet…

From my blog a The River.
Truth be told, I am not a fan of “The Diet.” The word represents all negatives. It makes it hard to enjoy because it screams restrictive. I am a believer of portion control, moderation, and exercise.
That’s why I was intrigued when I hear about Mimi Spencer’s new book, “101 Things to Do Before You Diet (Because Looking Great Isn’t Just About Losing Weight)” — it is a list of tricks to tweak the way you think about dieting and your body. Try some of these before you give in to a cupcake craving …
1. Wear heels. plus longer, leaner looking legs.
2. Discover your signature style. Rock the clothing that gets you the most compliments and makes you feel good, even if it’s a V-neck you scored five years ago at a yard sale.
3. Give food your undivided attention. You might discover you cut calories without trying when you pay attention to each morsel. Try to remember to eat when you’re hungry (not just weepy or bored)
4. Buy more food without labels. Limit the boxes, cans, and wrappers. A good rule to follow: If you have to nuke it when you get home, there’s probably a fresher option in the produce or meat aisle.
5. Police your portion control. Cleaning your plate is out especially if the portions are Americano.
6. Beware of “healthy” foods. Be careful that your bowl of lettuce
doesn’t then get smothered in dressing, croutons and bacon bits. It’s hardly a “salad” if it’s worse for you than a milkshake!
7. Wear black opaque tights. They’re in for fall, and they make your legs look thinner — plus, they can hide a multitude of flaws.
8. Choose fat burners, not fats. Some foods actually satisfy you. Try: grapefruit, apples, olive oil, flaxseeds, sunflower seeds, lecithin, garlic, blueberries, and almonds.
